Shore Power

When the California Air Regulatory Board passed stringent air quality regulations 20 years ago, the need to shut down the in-port ship’s engines became paramount. Transferring to a cleaner shore-based utility supply was the only option. Paragon Engineering was at the forefront of the design innovation and has supplied over 60 designs of Shore Power/Shore Box throughout the world. The seamless transfer of 6.6 VK power for container ships and 11.2 VK for cruise ships greatly reduced the carbon footprint of ports in the western USA.

Paragon Engineering served on the steering committee of IEC 80005-1 and 80005-2 which regulates the design standards for Shore Power applications.

We are currently in the design phase of a Shore Box application based on ANSI standards, not the IEC power distribution footprint that was utilized in the past.
